Following some discussion last night with the team we realised how we could create a simple series of posts that could last for some weeks. Uninstructive in their content the posts would be images from the ESO Top 100 captioned and linking to descriptions from the official archives. The course – a dosage of 5 images a week for 20 weeks – countdown style!
The ESO Top 100 Images series gives visitors a selection of the best astronomical images taken by a suite of the world’s most advanced ground-based astronomical telescopes from the Atacama Desert in Chile.
Astonishing views of distant galaxies and nebulae, amazing night-sky landscapes, first-class telescopes with lasers shooting into the sky – the series will act as an exciting window to the Universe.
Here’s the first 5 - images 100 counting down to image 96*.
